Creighton Medical School
Long-time donors generously support medical school project
(July 2012) - Doris and John Norton recently committed $1.3 million for the renovation of a building for the new Creighton University School of Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. Located on the St. Joseph’s campus, the refurbished building will house administrative offices, a student lounge and a gym. The building will be named Norton Manor in honor of the Valley couple.
John and Doris Norton are long-time supporters of St. Joseph’s. John has served on the boards of both Barrow Neurological Foundation and St. Joseph’s Foundation. Doris has been a member of the Barrow Women’s Board since 1988. The Nortons have made many other contributions to St. Joseph’s Foundation, including a $4-million gift to endow the Doris Norton Scholars program for Creighton student scholarships and a $1-million gift to create the hospital's Healing Garden.
In 2009, St. Joseph’s and Creighton signed an agreement to send third-year medical students to Phoenix to complete the last two years of their medical education. The first class of 42 students will begin their classes in June.
